Guards outside the Palacio Quemado in La Paz, Bolivia. This image just scares me for some reason. I think it’s the guard’s eyes on the left. Maybe disturbs is a more accurate word. It could also be all the conflicting lines. The building is straight and the sidewalk is going downhill and the guards are leaning in different directions. Look at it big and let me know what you think because obviously, I don’t know.

Ron, this is a bit creepy. The monotone simply adds a bit more of the ‘unknown’ to the whole photograph. It’s as if the soldiers are looking everywhere, seiing everything.
I know when I visited Puerta Vallerta, I never could get comfortable with all the armed police. They were everywhere, ready with their weapons in a split second. At the mercado, on the beach. They even stood in the front of the main cathedral.

Disturbing is a good word for it. Off-balance fits it too (the lack of balance might be part of what makes it so disturbing). All of which makes for a very interesting picture.

The picture does not look creepy to me, officers are kind of resting and it’s quiet in the surroundings from their positions. And, of course it’s very familiar to me as I pass by that door often… and the shade just mankes it standing in time.. did I miss something you all saw or know?

I agree Bo, Robin. It’s about the composition Ximena…
Gee, those guys way inside, look like their drunk! And they have guns!
You’re right about the lack of balance causing a disturbing feeling! I like it, though. And I especially love the monochromatic look of it. Very neat!
