Click on the birds for a larger version. The music is coming up.
So the sun sets on another year. I don’t know many people who aren’t happy to see 2008 put in the books but like most years, it had its ups and downs. The year started great, the NY Giants won the Super Bowl. The summer ended poorly, the NY Mets came up one game short against the Phillies, again. The economy slid and slid until it went over a cliff as if it were doing a James Dean impersonation.
The Presidential campaign dragged on forever, a seemingly never ending saga, until it finally, mercifully did end. The saving grace of the entire campaign (besides the results of the election itself) was the tag-team duo of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert proving that laughter truly is the best medicine.
There were people that we were sad to see go like Paul Newman, Heath Ledger, Eartha Kitt, Issac Hayes, Jerry Wexler, Bo Diddley and others. There were also people who we were happy to see leave the spotlight, even if they believed just a bit too deeply in Dylan Thomas. Folks like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin come to mind although I’m sure there are others.
In keeping with the image above and the soon to be departed 2008, the music is here and here and here.
Every New Year’s Eve, hope springs eternal, here’s hoping for a great 2009 for all of us.
