Fishing Boats On Lago Titicaca II

Fishing Boats On Lago Titicaca II - Copacabana, Bolivia

Click the photo for a larger version.

So I see these two boats on Lago Titicaca about a hundred yards or so from the road. I decide to get out of the 4×4. I’m staring at a couple of bulls laying down, no problem, go wide and they’ll ignore me. Now I’m committed. The ground gets softer, I move on, squishing and sinking in bullshit, cowshit and othershit. Now I’m half way to where I want to be. The ground is firmer but I’m still ankle deep in shit. The only thing standing between myself and my goal?

A few sheep, including some adorable tiny lambs. I walk on. As I get closer to the sheep, I realize that these aren’t Lil’ Bo Peep Sheep. I look back at the 4×4. Laughter. These sheep, they’re not happy that I’m here, hell, I’m not happy that I’m here thinking of an obit that starts with “Gringo killed by pissed off sheep in Bolivia” so I think to myself, “I’m bigger than they are, a few snaps of my camera will back them away.” No dice, thanks Canon for quieting the shutter and mirror slap. (see below, including the “adorable black lamb” hiding)

So after a minute or so I look back at the 4×4 and receive the quintessential “don’t look at us, you’re on your own” look. I decide to go wide, again, much to the amusement of Daniela and Gary in the 4×4 and I’m sure the sheep. So I add sheepshit to the collection on my boots, walk another 15 yards to stand on the dock and capture the moment above.

Getting back to the 4×4? Just like the directions on the shampoo bottles… And what am I thinking the whole time?

“Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you were goin’ all the way. Kurtz got off the boat. He split from the whole fuckin’ program.”

Coming soon, my adventures with the Argentinian Border Guards…

LOL! I think it might have been worth it. It’s a great shot.

OMG I laughed so hard reading this post. Thank you so much I needed that today. Love the photo’s expecially the one of the sheep. Look at that expression – and the braclet of fur just above the hoof — great stuff!

This is the best thing I’ve seen done on sheep since Gene Wilder got hooked on Woolite. Great stuff.

Ron you didn’t mention I had to spray your “shitboots” with our drinking water! Yes, it was my idea, but I wasn’t going to let you ride in the 4×4 with all that smelly mud man. You should not have taken the way around the bulls in the first place. But it was very funny, after you said “it’s a swamp!”, and I replied “Yeah Ron, it is”, to watch you walk right into the shit/mud.

I didn’t mean to scare the shit out of you, but it was good trip Ron. Hope to drive ypu next time too.
